Two Months of Veterinary Care, Solidarity and Learning in Sinop!

Our Egyptian ESC volunteer and veterinarian Ghada Abou-Senna has successfully completed her two-month volunteering activity with Sahipsiz Hayvanları Koruma ve Yaşatma Derneği in Sinop!

Within the European Solidarity Corps (ESC), Ghada joined us through our sending organisation Have A Dream and dedicated her veterinary knowledge, skills and energy to improving the lives of stray and vulnerable animals under our care.

During her activity, Ghada played an active role in managing the treatment and recovery of sick cats in our Bektaşağa Village foster home and Patient Room. She supported veterinary clinic visits, followed animals throughout their treatment and post-treatment periods, and provided emergency assistance to stray cats whenever needed.

Alongside medical care, she contributed to the daily welfare of the animals by feeding them, maintaining hygienic living areas, monitoring their health and recognising early signs of illness. Together with our team, she also participated in systematic internal and external parasite treatments for approximately 120 cats and 8 dogs.

At the Gerze Municipality Stray Animal Care Center, Ghada supported veterinary procedures and surgeries, including spaying, castration and amputations, gaining further practical experience while contributing her own professional knowledge.

One of Ghada’s most valuable contributions was not only what she did for the animals, but also what she shared with the people around her. ❤️ She trained her colleagues in practical veterinary procedures such as blood sampling and IV solution administration, helping strengthen the team’s capacity to provide better care even after her volunteering period ended.

Her ESC journey was also an experience of intercultural learning and personal growth. Working in an international environment helped Ghada strengthen her communication and teamwork skills, overcome language barriers through patience and adaptability, and discover how a shared commitment to animal welfare can bring people from very different backgrounds together.

As Ghada describes her experience, she leaves Sinop with stronger clinical skills, greater self-confidence, a broader international perspective and an even deeper commitment to community-based work and animal welfare.
