Our veterinary volunteer, Malak Shindiyeva from Azerbaijan, has successfully completed her 2-month volunteering activity in our association within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme.

Throughout her volunteering experience, carried out with the support of her sending organisation, Sağlam Düşüncə Gənclər Təşkilatı, Malak actively contributed to the care and treatment of stray animals. She took part in activities in local villages and at the Gerze Animal Shelter, supporting the feeding of cats and dogs, the cleaning of their living areas, and their daily care.

As a veterinary professional, Malak had the opportunity to put her knowledge into practice by closely following eye surgeries and sterilization operations carried out at the shelter. While assisting with the care of animals undergoing treatment, she also had the chance to observe the treatment process of a diabetic cat. By taking an active role in sterilization procedures, she further developed her surgical skills and gained experience with different operation techniques.

This volunteering experience became not only a professional opportunity but also a personal journey of growth for Malak. Although she was already a veterinarian, she shared that this was the first time she had worked so intensively with animals and built such a strong bond with them. While some days were challenging and demanding, she emphasized that the knowledge and experience she gained made every effort worthwhile.

During her time in Sinop, Malak also discovered the natural beauty of the Black Sea region and had the opportunity to experience a different culture firsthand. Although the language barrier was one of the biggest challenges she faced, she successfully improved her English communication skills and highlighted how working in an international environment brought her valuable personal and professional benefits.

In Malak’s own words, this project inspired her to pursue new beginnings and helped her feel stronger both professionally and personally.

We would like to thank Malak for her dedication, compassion, and hard work in supporting our furry friends. We wish her every success in her future career and personal journey. Good luck, Malak!
