Martina Pesa

Throughout her activities, Martina assisted veterinarians in their treatments and surgeries at Sinop and Gerze Shelters and Sarıkum Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, and treated sick animals in need of intensive care at her home. She participated in neutering surgeries of cats and dogs in shelters. She worked hard to improve the general conditions of Sinop Shelter especially. She helped heal many animals. She detected their illnesses early and informed us. She ensured that tests were carried out in private clinics and the correct treatment was given. She took many cats and dogs to 19 Mayıs University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Academy Surgery Clinic in Samsun and ensured their diagnosis and treatment with the advanced devices there. She taught our younger veterinary volunteers and helped them develop in their fields. She treated and cared for many sick cats in her own home. She performed routine examinations of the disabled cats in our mini shelter under our care and diagnosed their diseases. Early diagnosis enabled them to hold on to life again. She went out on the streets with us and treated many sick cats and dogs. Many homeless cats and dogs of Sinop came to life again with Martina. We will never forget Martina, who had outstanding skills in both internal medicine and surgery. Since she was originally from Bosnia, she was very close to our culture and immediately adapted to Sinop. She made many friends and won everyone’s love with her sincere and friendly characteristics. She took care and adopted a kitten that arrived at our association at two weeks old. She took her to her hometown when she left.

Our Jordanian vet volunteer Abed Alrahman Khaled Al-mahasneh, came to Sinop for 2 months with our European Solidarity Corps project, and went back home. During his volunteering period, Abed undertook the treatment and care of our stray friends with the veterinarian doctor of the shelter. He gave vaccinations and deworming medications to the animals. He assisted the vet with treating injuries and wounds, assessment in spay/neuter surgeries, administering medications and fluids and monitoring animal health and behaviour. In addition, he assisted with daily shelter operations such as feeding, cleaning cages, socializing animals, and promoting adoptions. We would like to thank Abed for all his hard work for our homeless friends.

For 2 months, Rowan worked for stray cats and dogs in the animal shelter of Sinop Municipality, and for injured, sick and orphaned wild animals at Sarıkum Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. She assisted the diagnosis, treatment and surgeries of veterinarians in these centers. She looked after the orphans and fed the patients. She helped many animals recover more quickly.

During her volunteering activity, Indrė assisted in the treatment of stray cats and dogs in Sinop and Gerze shelters. Accompanied by the shelter veterinarian, she improved her surgical skills in ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy of dogs and cats. She performed anesthesia, provided post-operative care, and intravenous fluid therapy. She took care of orphan cats, she nursed them and cured them from ectoparasites, endoparasites, diarrhea and skin problems. She did deworming procedures and prevention of viral diseases by vaccinating puppies and kitties. She took care of wounds, made bandages and provided first aid. She treated dogs with various skin problems such as fungal infections, scabies, demodicosis, flea allergy dermatitis, and also animals with eye, ears, upper respiratory tract and mouth infections.

Nermine worked in Gerze and Sinop shelters during her 4-month activity. She assisted the veterinarians here in surgical operations and treatments. She also fed our stray friends in the Sinop Shelter. She took care of the sick cats under the protection of the association at home, treated them, and followed up periodic check-ups until they recovered.

Salma, during her volunteering, worked in the shelters for cats and dogs and helped their treatment by following the protocols as a vet volunteer. She assisted the veterinarian with sterilization surgeries. She took care of the sick cats which are under the protection of the association at her home. She gave their medication and food and did the cleaning of their wounds. She accompanied the sick cats and dogs to the university in Samsun and followed the protocols that professors told.

Maryam worked in Gerze and Sinop shelters during her 2-month activity. She assisted the veterinarians here in surgical operations and treatments. She took part in the treatment of our homeless friends in the private clinic, such as fractures, cystitis and kidney stones. She cared for and treated sick cats at home. She accompanied our sick homeless friends who went to 19 Mayıs University and observed the treatments of the teachers. She removed a pin from the leg of the injured hawk at Sarıkum Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. She released the recovered seagull back into nature.

During her volunteering service, Celeste worked for our homeless friends in Sinop and Gerze shelters. She assisted veterinarians in their treatments and surgeries. She performed vaccinations and internal and external parasite treatments for approximately 50 cats under our care. She did the annual cleaning of the places where they lived with us. She implemented treatment protocols for sick cats in her home and did their cleaning care. She bottle fed orphaned kittens. She fed our homeless friends living on the streets with us.

Throughout her activities, Milisa served in Sinop and Gerze Shelters and in a private clinic to follow up our sick and homeless animals. She ensured good nutrition and daily care of animals in shelters. She ensured that the shelter was clean and a healthy environment for the animals. She performed and assisted many critical procedures under the supervision of experienced veterinarians. She learned how to perform neutering surgeries on cats and dogs. She monitored the health of the animals in the shelter and performed routine health checks. She assisted veterinarians in providing emergency medical care to injured or sick animals. She developed skills in performing health assessments, administering medications, and providing postoperative care. She helped heal many homeless and sick animals.

Throughout her activity, Noemi assisted veterinarians in their treatments and surgeries in Sinop and Gerze Shelters. She provided basic care for sick animals. She fed the animals in the cages and ensured that their cages were clean and comfortable. She monitored the health of the animals by giving them medicine. She worked closely with veterinarians, assisting them with surgical operations and bandaging. She took part in the parasite treatment, vaccination and chipping of our association’s cats. She took care of sick animals at home and went out to feed homeless animals with us.

During their 2-month long volunteering service, they worked in the Sinop and Gerze shelters. They assisted the veterinarians in our shelters in their diagnosis and treatment. They provided post-op care and ensured that animals recovered safely from surgeries, which is crucial for their long-term health and adoptability. They took care of orphaned or injured animals not only saved lives but also provided them with the nurturing they need to grow healthy and strong. Therefore, they increased their chances for successful rehabilitation and adoption. Manal and Wissal also provided parasite treatment for nearly 100 cats under the protection of our association, vaccinated young cats and performed routine checkups. They applied the treatment protocols of our veterinarians to our sick cats.

In the activity hosted by our partner Proatlantico – Associacao Juvenil in Oerias, Portugal, Aliyenur worked for the development of disadvantaged and refugee children. She also participated in activities that facilitate the adaptation of disabled individuals to social life. She assisted in the international activities of the hosting organization and was also a participant in these activities. She both exchanged cultures with other volunteers from different countries and introduced our culture. She also improved herself with non-formal education methods in many areas such as teamwork, creative thinking, time management, and intercultural sensitivity.

They developed themselves personally, socially, culturally and professionally.

Yaren and Esra took part in the activities of the hosting organization in their short-term volunteer activity. They participated in the Youth Festival in Baku. They took part in the technical team of the “Migration & Youth” Erasmus+ training course hosted by the organization between 2-8 May 2023. They gave presentations on healthy nutrition, environment and ecology to students in primary and secondary schools and made presentations of their host organizations. In this activity, Yaren and Esra developed themselves personally, socially, culturally and professionally.

Also they delivered trainings. They experienced two Erasmus+ Youth Exchange projects which were hosted by Common Sense Youth Organisation and participated in 3 youth camps. They were both staff and participants in the camps. They have a lot of competences in international youth work and exchanges.

In the activity hosted by our Bosnian partner, Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities – BRAVO, Beyza and Betül volunteered for 2 months in a pre-school institution for disadvantaged children. Here, they carried out activities that developed children’s cognitive, behavioral and skill abilities and exchanged culture with other volunteers from different countries. This activity greatly benefited Beyza and Betül’s personal, social, professional and cultural development.

During her one-year volunteer service, Sena, who is a Hatay earthquake victim, worked with children and young people. She assisted teachers in a kindergarten. She carried out educational and entertaining activities with young people. She worked in animal shelters. She was interested in the cultural heritage in the society. She participated in the Slovenian Alpine Association’s integrative walks for people with disabilities. She helped Caritas to raise funds for people facing poverty. She did handicrafts, woodworking, painting. She took part in various workshops. She took part in many invitations and events of the host organization Manipura, Zavod za svetovanje in kreativno delo z mladimi in družinami in Begunje na Gorenjskem, and represented the organization. She introduced the hosting organization. She learned Slovenian. She developed herself personally, socially, professionally and culturally. She tried to erase the effects of the earthquake from her memory.

She attended training on climate change in Amman. Şeyma, an Arabic language translator, had the opportunity to use Jordanian Arabic. She also got to know Jordan’s culture closely. This activity greatly supported our volunteer’s personal, social, professional and cultural development.

During their 2-month activities, they participated in the activities of the hosting organisation, Common Sense Youth Organisation. Deniz and Selin attended lessons and games containing ecological information with children in schools and associations. They participated in different activities during summer school and regular school periods and prepared activities for young people. As part of the summer school project, they played meeting games with the students and helped the instructors. They took part in photography, video and promotion for the summer school and other events. After the summer school activities, they organized trips to fruit and vegetable raising laboratories with different groups of children. They participated training sessions for children on vegetable and fruit cultivation. With the start of the school term in Azerbaijan, they went to different schools and classes and gave lessons on ecology. While explaining the topic of ecology to the children, they played games to reinforce this topic. This activity contributed greatly to the personal, social, professional and cultural development of our volunteers.
