Maria Pantelia, an environmental scientist and veterinary technician from Greece, completed her two-month volunteering service in our European Solidarity Corps project. During her time Maria was involved in the care and treatment of hundreds of cats and dogs in the Gerze shelter and for the ones under our protection in the village and in the patient room. She assisted the veterinarian in sterilization surgeries at the shelter, administered medication and food to the cats in the patient room, and performed daily cleaning. She also took them to the clinic when necessary, participating in diagnosis and treatment. Her active participation in the program benefited both her professional and personal development. She had the opportunity to learn about many different medical approaches, techniques, skills, and tools. At the end of her program, she decided to study veterinary medicine. In addition to her duties, she developed many friendships and shared cultural, social, historical, and religious experiences with other volunteers. We extend our sincere thanks to Maria for all her dedicated work during her time in this program.
